Shirley has been a lovely friend to me over the years and I especially give thanks to the Lord for her support in writing to me so regularly when I lived in Nigeria.

She and Dad were an inspiration in welcoming foster children into their home and in all the work they did together for Torch. Then the work Mum did on her own for Torch from home.

Mum was a gifted lady in many ways, but my first impressions are still with me of a welcoming, rosy-cheeked, caring Mum who brought up her children to know the Lord.

I want to assure the family that I am bearing you all up in prayer at this time of Mum's homecoming.

With all she has suffered recently I am so glad that she is now with her Heavenly Father.

That doesn't take away from the loss of a dear Mum and friend.
