My first memory of Shirley was visiting her and John at Torch House where she was busy working in and supporting blind people living in the community there - a woman of faith with a big heart.

I remember more recently popping up to the flat to see Shirley while Natalie was in her cello lessons, having a cuppa overlooking Weston and catching her up with what the grandchildren were doing. She was always keen to hear.

I noticed how close she and John were in the years between her brain haemorrhage in 1994 and when he passed away in 2017 - bonus years when she never left him even for a short while without giving him a kiss and saying ‘I love you’.

She must have missed him terribly these last 8 years, especially when the dementia cut her off from the people who were around her.

Now she is missed but at peace.
